assault

Was physically assaulted by a patient. Tried to redirect him, but got thrown twice against the wall and punched in the face. Suffered low back injury as I had landed on a dry-erase board where there was a metal shelf to hold the marker. Risk management wanted to know what I could have done differently so as to not have been injured. Well, I suppose I could have let this patient fall to the ground as he was very unstable on his feet, but I chose to try to steady his gait. Ended up requiring S1 facet joint injections, PTSD therapy, and that was the last day of my 36 year career as a nurse.
