cultural competence

Thad a patient pass. In his culture/religion no one was to touch the body for 4 hours to allow the spirit to properly pass into the afterlife. The hospital supervisor told me l had to “remove him” because she needed that bed for an admission. I stood my ground and told her she could move him herself if she wanted to be responsible for that man’s soul not moving on properly.

She relented and allowed him to stay. Apparently all that cultural competence training goes out the window when beds need to be filled for profit.
