glove and ky

As a young nurse I worked in a hospital on a cardiac floor, but we did have some overflow patients or patients with a Gl consult. This one Gl doc would always come to the nurses station and ask which nurse had room number such and such, then he’d ask for “glove and ky”. He was so nasty to nurses. One day it was my turn again with him. He asked for “glove and KY” I grabbed “a glove and ky”. I wasn’t having it that day.

When he got ready to do the rectal exam, he stuck his hand out and said “glove,” so l handed him a glove. He then asked again … I was like “I brought you exactly what you asked for”. He was so pissed that he got up and stomped out. I apologized to the patient and went to the nurses station where everyone was laughing because they knew what I had done. Then I sat down to chart and was talking to another nurse about, “He’s an asshole because that’s all he sees all day.” Anyway, she went quiet and was looking over my shoulder, it was him. He actually smiled, the first time any of us had ever seen him smile. He respected me after that day.
