Working in an inner city ER and a young woman came in complaining of a bad smelling vaginal discharge. No belly pain. On exam she REALLY did have a putrid smelling green discharge. Pelvic exam showed an object in her vagina. Could not fully insert the speculum. Blunt forceps were used to remove a rotting/sprouted potato. When asked about it she said, “oh yea, my boyfriend put that there to absorb sperm so l wouldn’t get pregnant.” When she left we had to seal and decontaminate the room to get the odor out.
