jaw

I worked in an inner city ER and was hit by a patient. I sustained bilateral mandible fractures. He hit me so hard on my left jaw that it literally also broke my right as well. After my surgery, HR asked if I thought I could have de-escalated the situation.
Since my jaws were wired shut, I wrote on a piece of paper, “I was coming on shift and walking in the hallway to go see another patient. He was walking out of his room after being denied opiate pain meds from the attending physician. He saw me and hit me. So…HELL NO!!”
